Homebred Kiger Stallion

Brioso Canyon is the result of crossing two well-known bloodlines in the Kiger sphere. He is out of a Charro daughter and a Chinook Canyon son. We decided to make him W12’s breeding stallion when we saw how much of his dam’s personality he retained. She was the reason Sarah fell in love with the breed, so we really wanted offspring that carried on highly desirable traits for becoming a well-loved saddle horse.

Under Saddle

For saddle starting, Sarah did a lot of bareback riding around our property. There was no buck for his first canter undersaddle and his gaits are smooth.

To continue his education in a more consistent timeframe, Sarah put him in training with Justin Nicolson of 180 horsemanship. She wanted someone with bridle horse experience to put time on him since that is her goal for the breed, but she personally doesn’t have the experience to accomplish it herself.

Brioso excelled in liberty training for his initial form of training. Sarah wanted to test his desire to please and cognitive ability to figure out what was asked of him, which has been a staple sentiment many breeders have shared about their Kigers. Liberty training can really show what the horse thinks of the relationship since they have the option to leave or avoid participation. Sarah personally likes a horse that is very in tune with their rider and are quick learners with a lot of “try.”

The liberty training helped us to assess quickly the good potentials in how much effort he was willing to put out and how open minded he is when it comes to something most horses might consider “work” and want to avoid if they have the option. Brioso would choose to leave his dinner in a large open pasture to come and see what sort of new thing Sarah was going to ask him to do.

Breeding Opportunities

Brioso is AI trained through Pioneer Equine Hospital. Pioneer said his frozen semen is also very good quality. His first offspring from his frozen was born in 2023.

He has several foal crops on the ground, several proving to carry on his great traits under saddle once they reached appropriate age. Please visit our “For Sale” section and “Sold” to see his offspring, and reach out to Sarah for more information about those foaled from on and off-site mares.

Brioso is DD for dun factor which means he will always produce dun factored offspring. He has produced grulla, dun and red dun foals.
